MAWHA was formed in 2004, to better meet the needs of all girls/women
interested in playing hockey in the Mid-Atlantic region. It is a league
that represents over 20 clubs and over 50 teams, from three different
USA Hockey Districts, playing girls and women's ice hockey.
Our mission is to increase the number of female athletes enjoying
ice hockey throughout the Mid Atlantic Region by:
Developing grassroots opportunities for girls and women to learn
and enjoy the game of ice hockey
Maximizizing the individual potential of each female athlete both
on and off the ice
Developing a strong sense of team unity and team spirit, and
Encouraging respect for others and develop good sportsmanship
At the girls/youth level we have developed a Red, White, and Blue
Division. The Red Division (Tier I), the White Division (Tier II), and
the Blue Division (Developmental) create a feeder system region-wide
to advance our players. We provide opportunities for the elite level
players to develop the skills necessary to play at the college level.
All teams are encouraged to participate in the AAHA Select Programs
for women. We are actively involved with the development and expansion
of girl's high school hockey, adult women's leagues, college hockey,
and rink learn-to-skate programs for females.
